1.PROGRAMME SPECIFIC LABORATORIES

i. POWER SYSTEM LABORATORY

Power Systems Laboratory is equipped with many advanced Apparatuses and devices to conduct important tests   on power systems, starting from generation unit with control panel and protection equipment passing through the transmission lines to the load units with power factor correction panel.

The main Objectives of this lab:

  1. Linking the theoretical part of power systems with the practical part
  2. Provide the students with hands-on experience with real practical power systems devices and equipments.
  3. Analysis of real power systems starting from generation unit till to the load unit.

Major equipments present in this laboratory are SCADA based Transmission Line Analyzer, Differential Protection of Three Phase Transformer, Smart Grid Simulator, etc.

In this power system laboratory course, students are imparted with simulation based experiments and hands-on training using hardware setup procured under TEQIP as listed below.

  • Smart Grid Simulator
  • Real Time Symmetrical/Unsymmetrical Fault analysis of Simple Power System
  • Study of various protection schemes of Power System Apparatuses
  • SCADA Based transmission Line Analyzer
  • Dynamic Grid Fault Simulator

Advanced Power System Simulation Laboratory

Soft computing techniques come into prominence in recent times and its application to power systems is essential. Concept of Soft computing techniques applied to Power System studies have been imparted to students using MATLAB software. The knowledge gained by the students through this laboratory enable them to do innovative projects using Intelligence Techniques

Some of the experiments are listed below:

  • Load frequency dynamics of Single area Power System using the Fuzzy Logic and Artificial Neural network Controller
  • Implementation of Automatic Voltage Regulator using real Time Simulator
  • Economic Load Despatch using Genetic Algorithm.

ii. COMPUTER SIMULATION LABORATORY

The aim of this laboratory is to provide required computing and simulation facilities to the postgraduate students in order to meet their requirements. The main emphasis is to do the project work on designing and optimizing power system networks using latest application packages such as MATLAB, Scilab and other engineering packages which are used by the postgraduate students. This laboratory is connected with the College Local Area Network and access to online internet services is available

The Laboratory is well equipped with sufficient UPS back up and maintained. One system is allotted for each student in computer lab for simulation based experiments. Campus wide Internet facility has been provided without limitation by the department to the students and faculty. The lab is spacious with good ambience.

iii.SMART GRID TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY

The Smart Grid Technology Laboratory is a multifunctional laboratory, which provides a significant infra­structure for re­search and development of grid connected power systems. The laboratory is highly configurable for establishing sample power system network, guarantees the possibility to carry out a wide range of research activities. The facility provides not only a suitable infra­structure for academic and educational purpose but also paves a platform for practical re­search together with industrial and manufacture partners
