About SRF-GCT

"Ideas are the source of innovation and innovation is the vital spark of all human change, improvement and progress"

The institution has established Student research foundation (SRF) in the year 2010 to initiate research and new product developments within the campus among under graduate level students. Through SRF, the innovative ideas are funded and technical assistance are provided to develop them into full fledged real time products and solutions.

SRF Inauguration

The 'Student Research Foundation' was inaugurated by Dr. Mylswamy Annadurai, alumnus of this instition and renowned scientist at Indian Space Research Organization ISRO on October 5, 2013 in the GCT Auditorium. He awarded the top three project proposals of the 'Students Innovation Contest' with cash prizes of 5000 INR, 3000 INR and 2000 INR respectively. Apart from the cash prize, the winners are funded by the TEQIP, to transform their ideas into commercial products for the society. Dr. M. Annadurai gave an inspiring talk on 'how to innovate' for the students of GCT.

The occasion was embellished by two other Alumni - The Principal Dr. V. Lakshmi Prabha, who presided the function and Dr. R.Krishnan, former Director ADRIN, Hyderabad, the Senior Research Officer of GCT at that time. The SRF Coordinator Dr. T.Purusothaman, Associate Professor, Department of CSE & IT and other faculties of various departments were also present during the inauguration.

Vision :

Mission :

To promote innovation, inspire research, educate and support new innovations and create environments where students can succeed.

Goals :

  • To facilitate resources for undergraduate research through mentoring and networking.
  • To raise awareness about research and new innovations amongst engineering students.
  • Participate and collaborate on programs with congruent organizations for funding as well as a knowledge exchange.
  • Develop new products/solutions that favours for the society.
  • Establish and foster an open forum for the exchange of ideas, concerning the societal well being of the national and global community.

Student Innovation Contest

“Ideas are like legs; what good are they if you can't run with them.” - Jarod Kintz

“Leave in your present and shape your future” - Bharathiyar

Every academic year SRF has planned to organize a Student Innovation Contest. It provides a platform to prove their technical and research talents. While all agree that an idea can change one’s life, it is time to realize any idea that can’t be implemented isn't worth a penny. Long has been the gap after the idea to lighten the world led to innovation of a bulb by Edison. With the vision of SRF, GCT organizes a Student Innovation Contest every year to collect the best innovations and ideas from budding engineers.

Round 1 : Project proposals submitted by the undergraduate students are reviewed by the selection committee comprising senior faculty members.

Round 2 : Shortlisted project proposals are further reviewed by the BOG members for funding approval.

Guideline for Project Proposals

Rules

  • Team size is limited up to 4 members.
  • Teams may have mixed disciplines.
  • Inclusion of juniors is encouraged.
  • Project proposal should have a novel idea.
  • Students are instructed to submit their proposals through their respective project guide and HOD with proper recommendation.

Proposal Should Contain

  • Title of the project.

  • Objective, Overview, and Methodology.
  • Implementation feasibility.
  • Societal impact.
  • Conclusion.
