Department of EIE Engineering - About the Department

The autonomous system is a buzzword today, where machines, equipment, devices and even automobiles are created to work independently. Thanks to Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering (EIE) discipline which forms the backbone to make it happen. Being a multidisciplinary stream, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering offers a solution to all the Engineering branches like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Textile Technology, and Biomedical and so forth.

The Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, integrating various sensors, control systems and visualization objects so that the overall productivity of the industries are improved many folds. The recent developments in technologies like IoT (Internet of Things) and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things)have increased the responsibility and job opportunity of Instrumentation graduates, spanning from Research and Development Centres to Pharmaceutical Companies, Food and Beverage Industries, Oil and Gas Refineries, Power Plants, Aerospace Industries, Cement Industries and almost every sphere of the globe.

The Department of Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, Government College of Technology, Coimbatore was started in the year 1984, offers an undergraduate Programme B. E. Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. The Department consists of sufficient number of faculty members having vast experience in Engineering and Technology with specialization in areas like Process Control and Instrumentation, Control System, Industrial Automation and Control, etc. The Department is equipped with laboratory facilities like Process Control Lab, Control System Lab, Industrial Instrumentation Lab, Industrial Automation Lab, Sensors and Transducers Lab, etc. The experimental facilities are funded by AICTE Modernization and Removal of Obsolescence (MODROBS), Technical Education Quality Improvement Programmes TEQIP I, TEQIP II and TEQIP III along with State funds.

The Department of EIE, GCT is committed to deliver high-quality teaching and training with help oflatest technologies, state of the art laboratory facilities, experienced faculty members and supporting technical staff. The consistent relationship with industries through MoUs, Industrial Relation Cells, Institutional Research Cells and Alumni Association helps to enhancethe quality of education and envisage research activities in the Department.
