EEE

The Department of Electrical Engineering has been functioning from 1945. It offers an Undergraduate program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering since its inception. During 2002,two Post Graduate programswere started in Power SystemsEngineering and Power Electronics and Drives.

This Department houses laboratory with modern infrastructure and at the same time has an extensive collection of different types of AC and DC machines of 1950’s in excellent working condition. The laboratory equipmentincludes latest special machines along with intelligent drive systems. Laboratories aimed at advanced research have been set up and many research works have been carried out in this department. The latest Measurementgadgets, Power Electronics circuits, Process control setup with PLC, Power quality analyzer and advanced software facilities are readily available. The students and research members can avail them at any time.

The Department of Electrical Engineering, with well-qualified and experienced faculty, technical staff and students, is committed to excel in Electrical Engineering through education and research. More than 40 scholars have completed their Ph.D. from thisdepartment. The Faculty strength is proud to have eight Doctorates out of a total strength of ten members.

This prestigious Department has been selected for the establishment of centre of excellence in“ALTERNATIVE ENERGY RESEARCH” and provided with a grant of Rupees Five Crore under TEQIP Phase II program by the NPIU, Noida. Dr.N.Devarajan, Professor of Electrical Engineering is the coordinator and Principal investigator. The thematic areas of research are: Wind Power and Solar Energy.

The Missions of this center are:

  • To provide National and International Center for Innovation in the rapidly growing area of renewable energy resources (Solar and Wind)
  • Curricular engagement through teaching, learning and research, which engages faculty, students and industry in mutually – beneficial collaboration
  •  It is designed to address community – identified problems and finding solutions by developing specific renewable energy projects.

            These Researches will enable high penetrations of utility-connected and stand alone renewable energy systems. The Centre will conduct research and investigation in the following areas:

  • SOLAR ENERGY-Photo Voltaic (PV) Power generation-stand alone units and grid integrated systems
  • Development of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) controllers for low cost and simple stand alone units with battery storage
  • Investigating the optimum utilization of the PV panel and battery using various types of charge controllers
  • Improving the modeling and simulation of PV systems to study the impact of Solar systems on the Grid
  • Finding solutions through control algorithms for improvement of Power Electronic Converters to enable the independent control of power and reliable integration of Grid
  • Monitoring the condition of PV panels by development of new measurement techniques
  • WIND POWER-Grid connected wind power system and Solar-Wind hybrid systems with energy storage
  • Developing MPPT Algorithms using advanced techniques like fuzzy logic etc.
  • Investigating the Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT) capability of wind generators by implementing FACTS devices
  • Providing versatile solutions for cost-effective Wind and Solar hybrid systems with remote monitoring and control
  • Identification and Implementation of   various methods of Energy Storage (Batteries, Super Capacitors etc.).
